WYSIWYG Coral
All of the live coral sold by Coralz.net is sold as WYSIWYG Coral. We are strong believers that what you think you are purchasing should be what you actually receive. We refuse to stoop to the level of some other retailers, and sell our coral via heavily retouched photos, stock photos, or photos of past items.
What You See IS What You Get
When speaking of WYSIWYG Coral, the WYSIWYG is an acronym for "What You See is What You Get". The ideology behind this is that when ordering an item, the picture that convinced you to order it should be the item which you actually receive. It should not be unfaithfully altered, and should not be a past item, stock photo, etc. Some retailers offer true WYSIWYG Coral, while some offer retouched photos and broken promises. While selling coral represented by retouched and color-enhanced photos may be easier, it is essentially nothing but screwing over your customers by misleading them with untruthful photographs.
Coralz.net will ensure that every photo on our website is as accurate as possible. We will never use outdated photos of past stock, photos that we did not take, untruthfully retouched photos, or any form of "recycled" coral photographs.
The only very slight exception to our WYSIWYG Coral policy is that occasionally when we have not yet fragged out a colony, we may post photos of the whole colony as opposed to a single frag. However; upon fragging a colony, we WILL NOT ship the frags until they are completely cured and thriving in our tank, to ensure that they will continue to thrive in yours.
As far as photo retouching; faithful and truthful retouching is impossible to avoid. The reason for this is that the white balance, or what the camera believes to be "true white", is sometimes in excess of 25,000k (kelvin) due to our lighting. This gives photos an extrmely and overpowering unrealistic blue tint. Using exclusively high-quality dSLR cameras, this correction is necessary, as modern dSLRs do not automatically retouch photos to the extent that lower priced "point and shoot" cameras do. Any photographer can tell you that post-processing is a necessity when utilizing a dSLR.
Even though we are correcting the white balance, we will never consciously add an unrealistic tint to an item. We try to ensure that the photographs which we present of our corals will accurately give the customer an idea of how the coral will look under any lighting. There will always be variations, due to the wide variety and color temperature of reef lighting, but we strive to give as accurate a "reference point" as possible.
